Yuriy Tarnawsky is a Ukrainian-American writer, author of some 40 volumes of poetry, fiction, drama, essays, and translations in Ukrainian and English. This is a selection of his best-known and favorite poems from over his career. He was born in Ukraine, but was raised and educated in the West. An engineer and linguist by training, he has worked as computer scientist at IBM corporation, specializing in Natural-Language Processing, and professor of Ukrainian literature and culture at Columbia University. For his contributions to Ukrainian culture, in 2008, he was awarded the Prince Yaroslav the Wise order of merit. He resides with his wife Karina in the New York City Metropolitan area.
