Kim Merrill is a writer based in New York City who has spent years working in theatre before focusing on fiction. She has lived in various places throughout the United States before settling in the city she loves. Her memoir Red Girl Jumping, an experimental work about childhood trauma and memory, won the 2024 Kenneth Patchen Award for the Innovative Novel and was published by Journal of Experimental Fiction Press in January 2026. Her novel-in-progress Hilda's House, set in rural Maine, earned the 2026 Tucson Festival of Books Literary Award in fiction. She has received fellowships from The MacDowell Colony, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, and her theatrical work has been produced regionally and off-off-Broadway.
